Founder Kamataro Kobayashi opened a privately run rental shop, Kobayashi Inki Store, in Hongincho, Nihonbashi Ward, Tokyo (currently Nihonbashi Honsekicho, Chuo Ward, Tokyo).
1899 (Meiji 32)
Moved to Kawaseishi-cho, Nihonbashi-ku, Tokyo (currently Nihonbashi, Chuo-ku, Tokyo), changed the trade name to "Kobayashi Shoten" and began selling printing inks and materials.

The Tomiku-cho factory was built in Ichigaya Tomiku-cho, Ushigome-ku, Tokyo (currently Tomiku-cho, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo).
Kobayashi Shoten was organized as a joint stock company.
1906 (Meiji 39)
Established pigments department at Tomikucho factory. Started production of yellow lead (chrome yellow), alumina white, and lake pigments.
1907 (Meiji 40)
Reorganized as a corporation (capital: 300,000 yen, total number of shares: 6,000) and renamed "Toyo Ink Manufacturing Co., Ltd." 33 shareholders, 32 employees. "Manufacture and sale of printing ink, sale of printing accessories, and related operations" are listed in the articles of incorporation as business items.
Kamataro Hosoya was appointed as the first president. The founder, Kamataro Kobayashi, became the sales manager.
Head office moved to Minami Kajicho, Kyobashi-ku, Tokyo (currently Kyobashi, Chuo-ku, Tokyo).
Started varnish production.
1908 (Meiji 41)
Sueyoshi Tanaka was appointed as the second president. Produced the industry's first ink sample book as an advertising tool to develop the Kansai market.
1909 (Meiji 42)
Ryoshichi Matsumoto was appointed as the third president.
1910~ 1910 (Meiji 43)
Masaaki Hashimoto was appointed as the fourth president.
Kawaseishi Town's sales functions were consolidated at the head office.

Launched "Quick Dryer", an oxidative polymerization accelerator for ink (later renamed "ORIENTAL Dryer"; supplied as a long-selling product until the 1970s).

Fukucho Factory lost half of its premises due to the spread of fire (restoration was completed in 1923).
The "Japan printing inks Materials Trade Association" is established.
1922 (Taisho 11)
President Koshiba passed away. From then on, Managing Director Kamataro Kobayashi will be in charge of management.

Great Kanto Earthquake. Head office and warehouse disappeared.

Tokyo air raid. The head office building was completely destroyed by fire. Head office functions were moved to the Aoto factory, and a temporary office was set up on the site.

Closed Fuji branch factory and consolidated functions to Aoto factory. Started full-scale production of β-type phthalocyanine blue and disazo yellow.
