Osawa Laboratory, Nihon University, College of Humanities and Sciences, which "Creates Doraemon in earnest," and artience, which "Creating value that resonates with the senses and realizing a future where all people can live enriched lives," announce joint research on the concept of a future spent with AI agents

We are pleased to announce that the Osawa Laboratory of the Department of Information Science, Nihon University, College of Humanities and Sciences (hereinafter referred to as the Osawa Laboratory) and artience Co., Ltd. (President and Representative Director: Satoru Takashima, hereinafter referred to as "artience") will conduct joint research on the future concept of spending time with AI agents with the aim of implementing Human-Agent Interaction (HAI)^* in society.

In the rapidly developing AI industry, the presence of AI that interacts with humans is increasing day by day, and HAI's research is said to be important for society.

The Osawa Laboratory continues its research on HAI and aims to implement HAI in society while being an academia with a system with diverse backgrounds. In addition, artience has continued to develop data solutions with the aim of utilizing the acquired data in order to propose new value to society beyond manufacturing, such as developing sensor devices that make use of the chemical materials it possesses.

Through joint research, the Osawa Laboratory and artience believe that by creating AI that is close to people in the area of HAI, where we have strengths in Japan, we can create a society in which AI and people can coexist, rather than just AI that can be used. Sharing this vision, we aim for a future in which Japan leads the world in AI agents and has technology that is close to people of all attributes.

Human-Agent Interaction
Human-Agent Interaction (HAI) is a research area that literally focuses on "interaction" between "humans" and "agents", and it is also a research theme that exists along with the question of "what humans perceive as agents". The existence of this universal problem is similar in that "what is intelligence" is always asked in artificial intelligence research.

In our laboratory, our goal is to create Doraemon, and students are also researching interactions with agents. In the course of my research, I believe that in order to create a world like Doraemon, it is important to have a personal agent who is close to each person, and a world where the existence of that agent is tolerated. In response to this, I feel that by working together with artience in the form of joint research without limiting ourselves to the laboratory, we will be able to create each individual's value that resonates with the senses and take a big step toward a future where all people can live enriched lives.

I want to make Doraemon. I want Doraemon to be born in a world where peace has become peaceful and people have become happy. I hope that the technology created in the process of creating Doraemon will spread throughout the world. We aim for a future where the process of creating Doraemon makes people happy.
